Company History
Porter Novelli was founded in Washington DC in 1972, based on the game-changing idea of applying marketing practices to communications aimed at public health and social issues. Jack Porter and Bill Novelli, fresh from their experiences marketing the Peace Corps, launched an extraordinary public education program for the agency's first client, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, about the dangers of undetected and untreated high blood pressure. The rate of death due to hypertension is now a fraction of what it used to be. And the discipline of social marketing was born.
