Company Overview
The American Academy of Ophthalmology is the world's largest association of eye physicians and surgeons -- Eye M.D.s -- with more than 32,000 members worldwide. We are headquartered in San Francisco at the edge of the San Francisco Bay with sweeping views from Alcatraz to the Golden Gate. Our organization is home to more than 180 dedicated employees whose goal is to advance the lifelong learning and professional interests of ophthalmologists and to ensure that the public receives the very best possible eye care.
Company History
The Academy evolved as part of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology (AAOO), which was founded in 1896 primarily to provide continuing education to eye, ear, nose and throat doctors.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology was incorporated as an independent organization in 1979 when the AAOO was divided into separate academies for each specialty.
