Staples’ Cyber Security team is a collaborative partner and revenue accelerator for Staples. We combine our unique expertise and knowledge of the business with innovative technology and risk-based, customer-focused solutions to protect our infrastructure and secure our assets.

What you’ll be doing: 

Manages the work of a large or strategically important security engineering team accountable for design, definition and implementation of technical security programs to protect the integrity of the organization's networks, systems, applications and data. Manages complex security engineering operations including security process administration, vulnerability management, identity access management, incident response, security scanning and monitoring, automated solution and compliance reporting. Manages the design and implementation of content, information and identity security policies and processes to protect the network, systems and data. Provides security consulting internally advising on threat modeling, defensive coding strategies and remediating vulnerabilities in software. Anticipates and monitors security implications of new and developing projects and applications. Ensures 24 / 7 response to security incidents. Stays current on evolving security and legislative / regulatory changes related to security. Accountable for the management of multiple sections of work or a major section of work.  Uses in-depth understanding of business practices of unit to make input into specific aspects of the operating plans of the function or unit at the next highest organization level, then, based on prevailing conditions, manages the daily operations of assigned section(s) of work. Outcomes managed have an impact on the assigned section(s) of work. Allocates available resources to meet operating objectives. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management / customers / vendors to share information and improve cross-departmental processes. Establishes and manages relationships with third party security auditors and solutions providers. Oversees and manages managers and individual contributors. Ensures the ongoing training and development of direct reports. Work is reviewed relative to defined operating outcomes / milestones.

  • Manages the IT security activities of an organization
  • Assists with overseeing tasks associated with the protection of systems and databases from unwanted users, disaster recovery, and off-premise storage
  • Investigates security issues and implements corrective actions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the field's concepts and principles
  • Performs complex tasks typically following established processes
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has full authority for personnel decisions
  • Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change
  • Typically reports to a director or a department head

  • Manage capital and operating expenses budget for technology area
  • Ability to execute analytical problem decomposition and solution design
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to influence and educate application development teams, product management, and leadership


What’s needed- Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years strong development and architecture background
  • Experience developing web/mobile applications using common web technologies (Java, Javascript)
  • Expert in application security and secure coding practices
  • Experience working with Agile development methodologies

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
