Description

We are looking for someone with 5-10 years of Capitol Hill and/or lobbying experience on health issues, who wants to make a difference in the world! Ideally the candidate has staffed one of the key health committees and has a proven ability to track and draft legislation; led campaigns to advance policies; strategized on which Members of Congress and committees to target and when, how to work with Federal Departments and Agencies, and influence the process; managed multiple projects and/or clients at once with professionalism and attention to detail; and knows the importance of treating clients well. Any experience in shaping legislation, leading advocacy campaigns, working in public affairs and messaging, and demonstrating an ability to lead, take initiative and manage government affairs strategies is key, as this is not an entry level position.

Requirements

The position entails researching, writing and organizing legislative materials (white papers, testimony, letters and policy proposals), scheduling meetings with congressional offices and agencies, coaching clients on how to present and work with government, leading meetings with Capitol Hill and Agency staff, attending events and hearings and reporting back on intel gained, working directly with client CEOs, preparing clients for government interactions, and performing related tasks in a fast-paced government affairs office. The candidate must pay strict attention to detail, follow-through on work, think ahead about next steps in working with clients, and communicate well with clients and colleagues. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and can work alone but is also a team player and collaborates well with colleagues on effective legislative strategy. Most of the work will entail federal lobbying, but sometimes the position may include some state work and grants research. A strong work ethic, professionalism, ability to listen well and respond appropriately, excellent communications skills, follow-through and a sense of humor are required. This position is designed for growth – for the right candidate, this will evolve into a leadership position for the firm.
