Full-time, salaried/exempt position within the Washington, DC office of a well-established bicoastal federal government relations firm. We are looking for a self-starter who is eager to learn and grow with our firm. Under the direction of Vectis DC’s Managing Partner or his designee, the Director of Federal Advocacy will work on all aspects of client service. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities will include:
- Create and implement legislative strategy for public and private sector clients across issue areas including but not limited to: environment; higher education; aerospace/defense; nonprofit/social service; public works/transportation.
- Legislative and federal grants research, using both online resources and direct contact with Capitol Hill staff and agencies to provide up-to-the-minute intel/insider information and perspective pertinent to client needs.
- Work within a specific subset of firm clients to provide primary day-to-day assistance to the Managing Partner in establishing and attaining each of their federal funding and/or legislative/regulatory goals.
- As assigned, accompany clients and firm principals to member and staff meetings on the Hill, as well as federal agencies in Washington, DC.
- Along with meeting attendance, this would include scheduling, logistics, background information, a compilation of up-to-the-minute relevant regular/social media, and finalization of briefing packets.
- Establish and maintain their own set of contacts on and off the Hill, federal agencies, and the White House that could be of benefit to the firm’s clients.
- Frequently prepare written memoranda to clients, updating them on status and outlook on each of their priority agenda items. Provide monthly and annual reports as needed.
- Contribute to the overall visibility of the firm in Washington, DC, including representation at conferences, events, receptions, and informal social occasions relevant to clients.
- Full-time attendance each day at the firm’s Washington, DC Office, and when requested, periodic travel to Los Angeles to assist with firm meetings and/or client related local events.
- Transmit weekly internal updates to the Managing Partner stating the amount of time spent working on behalf of each client, and within specifically assigned clients, report on steps taken that week toward achieving their federal funding and/or regulatory goals.
- Other items may be assigned from time to time.

• Bachelor’s Degree in complementary field to legislative/governmental affairs
• 5 to 7 years of relevant congressional, agency, or private sector government affairs experience,
