Description

We are seeking an experienced attorney and leader for the position of Deputy County Attorney. The position reports directly
to the County Attorney. Duties will include providing legal and litigation assistance to the County’s boards, commissions,
departments, Constitutional Officers and agencies.
This position may have the potential for future growth opportunity for succession planning to the County Attorney.

The County Attorney's Office provides legal representation
and advice to the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors,
Planning Commission, and all other boards, commissions,
departments, Constitutional officers and employees
regarding legal issues relative to conducting County
business.
We supervise legal affairs of the County, represents the
County in legal matters, brings lawsuits necessary to be
instituted by the County, defends the County in court
proceedings brought against it, and handles appellate
litigation to which the County is a party.
Residency within the County after appointment is preferred
with relocation benefits to be included as part of an
employment agreement.

Requirements

Preferred candidate will have at 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney and at least 5 years of experience as a
counsel to a Virginia local government with both significant land use law and civil litigation experience. Any combination of
education and experience equivalent to graduation from a law school of recognized standing and extensive experience in
the practice of law, much of which is in municipal law. Admission to practice in the federal district and bankruptcy courts of
the Eastern District of Virginia.
