Description
Delegate Charniele Herring (HD-4), Majority Leader of the Virginia House of Delegates, is seeking a temporary, full-time Session Aide for the 2026 Legislative Session. This position is primarily a legislative and administrative position; however, the successful candidate will also operate within the scope of the larger team with opportunities to staff the Leader and support communications, policy, and political operations.
The is a temporary position, running from January 12th, 2026 until March 14th, 2026. The position will be based in Richmond, VA and include irregular hours and evenings.
Requirements
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist staff with office administrative and legislative responsibilities
- Intake and resolve constituent casework
- Help with constituent response program
- Staff meetings with stakeholders and advocates
- Monitor committee meetings and track priority legislation
- Staff the Leader at legislative events & receptions
- Draft social media posts
- Assist with the legislative newsletter to constituents
- Other departmental duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred experience of some volunteer or extracurricular political activity
- Experience with Microsoft & Google Office Suites
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be a self-starter; willing to work long, irregular hours
- Superior project management skills—multitasking is essential—with a demonstrated-outcomes orientation and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
