Description
The Role:
The District Director leads a team of Constituent Services Liaisons, manages district-wide initiatives such as Participatory Budgeting, The District 39 Youth Leadership Council, and various community events, and serves as the Council Member’s primary representative within the district.
Major Responsibilities:
Constituent Services & Casework
Lead the Constituent Services team and oversee the resolution of constituent issues.
Manage complex or sensitive cases, including those requiring multi-agency coordination or affecting large portions of the district.
Train, supervise, and support Constituent Services Liaisons in their daily work.
Track casework data and trends to identify systemic issues and inform legislative or budget priorities.
Maintain strong relationships with City agencies to ensure timely and effective resolution of constituent concerns.
Community Engagement & District Operations
Manage the Council Member’s general inbox and ensure timely, accurate, and respectful responses to all inquiries.
Plan, coordinate, and staff district events, including community celebrations, press conferences, and town halls.
Represent the Council Member at meetings and public events when needed.
Assist Legislative Fellow with the annual Participatory Budgeting (PB) process, including idea collection, project development, and the community voting period.
Manage the District 39 Youth Leadership Council program
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in government or politics
Experience supervising staff or managing a small team
Strong understanding of New York City government, agencies, and constituent service processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and deadlines simultaneously
Comfort representing an elected official in public settings
Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment, especially when handling sensitive or high-stakes cases
Experience working with diverse communities and a commitment to equitable, community-centered service
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community events and meetings
Knowledge of District 39 and its communities preferred
